We prefer to feed a fresh, natural diet to our dogs, so whether you already feed raw, are happy for your dog to just sample some fresh culinary ideas as part of their holiday, or it is part of a longer term plan - we are happy to oblige!
A natural diet is included in the price of your dog's stay with us.
We all know that processed foods are detrimental to our health, and the same is true for your dog, this is why for the past 20+ years we have fed a natural, whole foods diet to all our dogs - rescues, visitors and our own pets alike. We feed what your dog evolved to eat.
Commercial dog food is all a processed food, and if you think of what effects eating a processed food for your whole life would have on you (microwave meals, pizza, McDonalds etc), the same is applicable to your dog.
Dogs and cats are hunters, and the basis of their teeth structure, jaws, stomach acid, ph and whole digestive system is designed specifically to deal with lots of juicy meat and raw bones. Dogs and cats are omnivores/carnivores that have evolved to eat a meat and bone based diet.
Today there is an abundance of dry, extruded and other industrially processed pet food on the market.
This may be convenient (to us in the short term) but is light years away from the food which nature intended dogs and cats to eat.
Biology is a science itself and on a biological level your pet's body is designed, and has evolved, to digest raw, quality proteins, rather than processed cooked proteins and grains.
For a typical day, breakfast for dogs here consists of minced green tripe and vegetables. Tripe is a superfood for dogs and a great basis of their diet. To this we add finely chopped veg and any vitamins/medications or tasty additions (fish, egg etc).
Dinner is raw meaty bones. These keep your dogs mouth healthy by cleaning the teeth, massaging the gums and allowing the digestive system to start before the food hits it. We prefer to use non-weight bearing bones (wings, carcass, necks, ribs etc), they are not as hard, and therefore are easy for your dog to chew and digest. If this is a step too far, just let us know on the booking forms and we can feed minced both ends of the day. The dogs don't get the healthy mouth benefits, but it tastes just as good, and still has all the nutrition of the whole food.
